It all started in December 2018 while attending the American Society of Hematology meeting when the idea of starting a healthcare podcast emerged. I have always been an avid fan of podcasts, but I felt that many podcasts were representative of hosts as opposed to guests. Many podcasts brought on guests that solidified the opinions of hosts. I wanted to lead a new wave of getting discussions on topics of interest to everyone in healthcare from patients to physicians and from manufacturers to payers.
As I always say, we are all in this together and we need to listen to all views and understand them. On February 2019, the Outspoken Oncology podcast was born. The Outspoken Oncology podcast was dedicated to facilitating candid discussions among all stakeholders on the most pressing topics in healthcare today.
The podcast was awarded Gold recognition in the MarCom Awards 2019 Competition for outstanding achievement of marketing and communication professionals. I was also awarded the Communicator Award of Distinction in April 2020 for my coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, and was specifically nominated for the episode where I hosted Dr. Emily Landon for the first time discussing the pandemic and its implications.
Outspoken Oncology aimed to approach oncology from the angle of all healthcare stakeholders to bring together views from all parties. Each episode featured a carefully selected guest with particular expertise in the subject of discussion. Guests were challenged to think outside the box and to come up with ideas that contradicted their own. Counter views were unapologetically examined and dissected.
In September of 2020, we decided to re-brand the podcast and start fresh with Healthcare Unfiltered as it better represented the conversations and topics being addressed.
